Introducing
|
I
have moved around a fair bit. I have mostly lived down south but absolutely
happy to be a coaster now! I've always enjoyed music and from an early
age had the benefit of experience with jazz and popular folk music in
and around the house. Its always been a part of my life. |
Description
of music |
I
have a tenancy to stick to blues and jazzy styles. I enjoy and appreciate
other styles but it seems that my main ability is in the blues and jazz.
My music is always better after half a bottle of whiskey - and worse after
a whole one! The guitar is my first instrument and I did a year at Hagley
JazzSchool on bass and that helped my musical understanding.
|
Who/What
have been your main musical influences ? |
Early
on in the piece i loved the grooves of Kenny Ball and his jazz men. Sonny
Terry and Brownie McGhee are also an influential style. Done a few of
my own originals and need to give them an airing - they tend to be a mix
of those influences and myself - not entirely blues. My brother Terry
inspired my first guitar and i have always looked up to his musicianship.
He was so creative and artist. |
Your
greatest musical moment? |
Playing
solo in front of the whole adult school at Hagley Jazz at he end of term.
Playing in the band was cool. The pub gigs were great .. if you are on
early enough! |
Your
musical dream? |
I
would like to be a part of a group of older musicians doing it for a heap
of fun. We'd be playing cafe style - and the crowds would smile - it would
be cool fun. We'd be swapping instruments. Just once i'd like to be dedicated
to vocals for a change and swap things around.
|
Your
best recent listen? |
The
Keb Mo concert - a little while ago. He was really inspiring and i haven't
heard anybody better. I liked his all around ability on older blues styles
and his performance manner... he really did it easy.
|
Your
thoughts about the Kapiti Live Music Club? |
Absolutely
astounding. Its going great. I love it and its an asset to this area.
It's a great thing to see so many talented musicians in an environment
where they can shine and entertain. |
